Started Training to Be a Line Man

Started training to be a line man, which of course is not the greatest job in the world because you are going to be out in the weather when it is the worst and you can be sure the electric companies in Texas will never need you much in the 9 to 5 type of deal starting out. It is pretty obvious that you are going to start out on the worst part of the deal and you can be sure that there is going to be a lot of work when it is really bad. The thing is that you could have an ice storm in North Carolina or South Carolina and they would ship you up there. You see convoys of power trucks heading to places where they have had really bad weather. There will be forty or fifty trucks headed up there and of course they are going to be out in the bad weather for 18 hours a day until it is fixed.

Of course when my power is out I am not going to be thinking about the line man who fixes it or how rough his life is. I would just want him to drop every other thing that was going on and focus on solving my problem. Once when we were kids they had a huge ice storm in the High point area of North Carolina. We had no power for more than a week, in fact I think it was ten or eleven days with no power. You really come to appreciate all of the conveniences of modern life after you go that long with none of them. You have to get batteries for the radio and that is all that you have to entertain you. In fact you have to save the batteries.
