A Struggle Against Policy Making

A Struggle Against Policy Making

I've learned a thing or two since I've moved to Texas. Checking out this page showed me just how many energy providers there are in the Lone Star state and made me realize how resource rich Texas really is. It's surprising to find so many providers in a single state considering where I lived previously we only had two for the entirety of the state. It's nice being able to have that power of consumer choice even for something like an energy provider but I do admit to wishing that my money had more of an impact on what kind of energy is made available to me.

I'm definitely in the camp for green energy. It's time that the United States learns from the Germans and actually begins to harness solar energy on a real scale rather than these tiny fields that do very little. Germany is the first nation in the world to have over half of all its energy coming in from alternative sources of energy rather than being dependent upon fossil fuels or finite resources. America has the ability to stand at the forefront of the green, alternative resource movement but due to its dependency upon corporations and the likes of Saudi Arabia we're doing very little.

Our dependency upon corporations is both a blessing and something of a curse. While they can lobby powerfully for policy that suits their interests they are also the institutions with the real money to make progress. While companies like Alphabet (formerly Google) are pushing for real change by investing in their own technology that should ease the human driven pressure on the environment and on global climate, it's going to be policy makers that truly help shape the future. Without the corporations being more positive toward renewables, it's going to be a struggle.

Is It Insane or Ingenious to Start a Diet During the Holiday Season?

Is It Insane or Ingenious to Start a Diet During the Holiday Season?

I have made so many New Year's resolutions that I am ashamed of myself. Not for making them, but for not keeping them. Some I even fail at in the first few minutes of the new year. One thing always hard for me was starting a diet in the winter. How can you let Thanksgiving go without indulging? Then there are the Christmas parties that are followed by the New Year's celebration. After that is plenty of leftovers. Not this year. Nope, this year I'm just looking for the best coupons for Medifast diet options. I have been on it since just before Thanksgiving and I have been losing weight. No way I am going to give up now.

This is the first success I have had in weight loss for a very long time. I needed to lose over 100 pounds. Medifast has helped me reach a milestone goal of dropping 25 pounds during the fall and holiday season. I was not going to put off getting started. I resolved to lose it now while the opportunity was there. I was not going to use the excuse of wanting to try grandma's pumpkin pie at Christmas, or worry about how much sauerkraut and Polish sausage I would eat for New Year's. With the portion control of Medifast, I did not have to worry about it.

The rest of the family told me how they were going to get started on their weight loss plans after the leftovers ran out later in January. I was not having any of that and decided to get started right away no matter what time of year it was. The initial immediate success was very encouraging to say the least. By the time they drop the ball in New York, I will be down by at least 40 pounds. That is really good for me!
